Spirit House by Mark Dapin – weaving pain and memory into a novel with comedy and wit takes some skill. It is a very different take on the prisoner of war theme particularly for the Changi and Burma Railway topics.
The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen – a fantastic book which reminded me of my own dysfunctional family which has been falling apart over the years. Enid is my mother and Alfred is my father. I much prefer this Franzen book to Freedom.
When it Rains by Maggie Mackellar. Not the story I was desperate to read but the one I understand she felt compelled to write.
