Ten years ago today, Clea became part of my life. On 17 April 2002, I under went egg harvesting for in vitro fertilisation. The doctor took six eggs from my ovaries and managed to fertilise five with my husband’s sperm.
On 19 April 2002, two embryos were transferred to my womb. One of those embryos was Clea. The other embryo did not survive but became part of me and part of Clea; it was subsumed by our bodies. The other embryos were frozen to be used later. Two of those embryos became Jordi and Omar.
So you see they were all conceived at the same time. They were triplets. Jordi and Omar are twins by circumstance. The doctor could easily have chosen Clea or one of the other embryos to be with one of them.
Not many people can pin point the exact day of conception, the exact day that a child becomes part of your life but I can.
